2009 marked the return of a key category for karting in the streets of the Principality of Monaco. For the first time, the 125 cc with gearbox category was the protagonist on a track which borrows part of the famous Formula 1 circuit: the S’s of the swimming pool, the Rascasse turn: these mythical places for car racing were the setting for the 13th Monaco Kart Cup.
Like in F1, at the Monaco kart circuit there is no room for mistakes. And it was in these difficult conditions that Anthony Abbasse gained an historic victory with his Sodi/TM in KZ2. Already at the top of the provisional standings after timed qualifying, Abbasse revealed all the potential of his kart in the pre-final. Slowed down by an accident while he was at the lead, he had to content himself with a second place. But in the final, his level of performance was definitely above that of his rivals. 6th after a difficult start, Anthony increased the pace and reached the first place after a few laps, opening a gap of over 5 seconds over his rivals – all experienced karters. And this is how Abbasse and Sodi wrote their names in the roll of honour of this unique event.
