Gary Catt (GB – TonyKart/Vortex) managed to land on his feet in Race 2, at the European KF1 Championship at Mariembourg. Everything started bad with a 24th position in timed qualifying and an early withdrawal in Race 1. However Gary staged an extraordinary recovery from 32nd to 6th place and maintained the first place in the provisional ranking, though with a narrow margin. Tony Kart did what he could to gain positions and Marco Ardigo, with his 2 victories in Belgium, regained at least 15 places and he is now only 4 points away from Catt.
Penalised in the qualifying heat, Arnaud Kozlinski (F – CRG/Maxter) managed to climb from 25th to 6th position in Race 1. Arnaud kept his 3rd place in the Championship. Yannick De Brabander (B – Intrepid/TM) made a remarkable entry straight to 6th position. Libor Toman, Sauro Cesetti and Jason Parrott, all three from Birel, gained a bit of ground. This was also the case with pilots Kosmic Bollingtoft and Bressan.
Of course Armand Convers (F – PCR/TM) had a brilliant performance, but not in the final. He lost 5 places in the ranking. Stevens (GB – Tony Kart/Vortex) and Kunranta (Fin – Birel/Parilla) lost 7 positions, Alban Varutti (F – Sodikart/Parilla) 9. Laine, Te Braak, Guignet are slightly losing ground in the Championship.
The outcome will only be known on the Braga circuit, in Portugal, on 2 and 3 August.
