After an attractive drivers presentation, racing resumed under a leaden sky. The Final of the first round of the FIA Karting – KZ2 European Championship was about to start.
6th on the grid, Benjamin Tornqvist (CRG / TM) retired on the formation lap.
It was an excellent start by Emil Skaras (Energy / TM) ahead of Alexander Schmitz (Tony Kart / Vortex) and Simone Cunati (CRG / TM). Philip Hall (Tony Kart / Vortex) was 4th in front of Giuseppe Palomba. Emilien Denner (Sodi / TM) was trying to win places, but then dropped down to 10th place while Paolo Besancenez (Sodi / TM) was 8th behind Riccardo Longhi (Birel ART / TM). In the lead, Skaras tried to preserve his small gap of about 4 tenths on Schmitz who gave in to Cunati on the 9th of the 26 laps of the race. David Vidales (Tony Kart / Vortex) was 4th followed by Longhi. Jean Nomblot (Sodi / TM) had to give up a little earlier and Tom Leuillet (Praga / Iame) fell to the back.
At half-time Skaras was 6 tenths ahead of Cunati, followed by Schmitz by 3 tenths. Vidales, in 4th, was 1.2 ‘ back’. A dramatic change on lap 17 saw the withdrawal of Schmitz faced with a mechanical problem. Very fast, Longhi was 3rd after passing Vidales. At the same time, Cunati returned to the leader Skaras, without being able to really threaten him. Longhi pushed to join the duo. The finish crowned Skaras as the winner, Cunati 2nd by 62 milliseconds and Longhi 3rd 76 thousandths later with a gain of 10 places. Vidales had a good 4th place and Besancenez finished the race with a formidable top five ahead of Giacomo Pollini (Formula K / TM) while Denner managed to come back to 7th. Pierre Loubère (Birel ART / TM) finished 15th and Paul Evrard (Kosmic / Vortex) 18th.
