Max DEFOURNY - Communiqué n°3

16/12/11 Defourny Makes Quite an Impression at Ayrton Senna Trophy
Max DEFOURNY - Trofeo Invernal Ayrton SENNA - Sarno

Kart driver Max Defourny did not make the easy choice when he decided to race at international level in the very hard fought KF3 class in 2011. But difficulties can teach a lot! And this exactly what happened to the driver from Luxemburg, who constantly improved during the season and even made it to the second step of the Ayrton Senna Trophy at Sarno (Italy), in November. Max is already looking forward to 2012...

The 2011 season has been a long and intense one for Max Defourny, who has fulfilled his goal: clocking up a lot of kilometres to reach the top level, attending major international meetings to face the best drivers in KF3, making himself noticed whenever there is an opportunity, becoming tougher within the pack where fighting spirit is not an empty concept, and achieving the first satisfactory results, in order to start 2012 with greater confidence.

Not an easy task for a driver who was only 12 and 1/2 at the start of the year! But Max Defourny was able to rise to the challenge and concluded 2011 with a double performance on the selective Sarno track, near Naples. Held in three races divided into two meetings, the 16th edition of the Ayrton Senna Trophy saw Max racing on a Tony-Vortex kart from the Baby Race Team. After setting the third fastest time in timed qualifying, he made an excellent start in Race 1. At the end of a flawless race, he concluded with a second place, after even taking the lead during the final.

The following weekend, Max Defourny gathered momentum race after race. Eight in the first race, he launched his attack and fought for the lead in Race 2. "I got boxed in at the start and came out 10th", Max explained. "Fortunately, the team and I had decided to change a few adjustments and restored the set-up basis of the previous week. It was a decision that paid off and I was able to regain a few places".

Although he got hit and lost a few places, Max remained focused and continued to push hard to claim his place on the podium. Finally he was tenth again, a place he also occupied in the overall classification of the Ayrton Senna Trophy, just ahead of his team mate Alessio Lorandi. After this first year of experience in KF3, Max has now the intention to become a regular candidate to the podium in 2012. This driver from Luxemburg definitely deserves to be followed closely...
