The FIA Karting European Championship – KZ2 continued with the two Super Heats on Sunday morning in Genk in the sun with a temperature of 22°. The races were intense to say the least, as well as confusing in the pack and there were many retirements, mainly due to collisions.
Super Heat A: Trefilov
Tom Leuillet (Birel ART/TM) got the best start in Super Heat A. David Trefilov (Maranello/TM) attacked him boldly which allowed Daniel Vasile (DR/Modena) to take the lead. Norton Andreasson (Tony Kart/Vortex) moved up to 3rd ahead of Leuillet. Trefilov was back in the lead ahead of Vasile. Thomas Imbourg (Sodi/TM), who was 5th, lost several places. The top three, Trefilov, Andreasson and Leuillet, had severely distanced themselves from their opponents. Leuillet was assured of pole position on the starting grid for the Final race, and let Andreasson put pressure on Trefilov in the closing laps, but the positions remained the same. Trefilov won against Andreasson, Leuillet finished 3rd. Vasile was 4th by 2,6” and Kristijan Habulin (TB Kart/TM) 5th. Matteo Spirgel (Sodi/TM) was 7th, and Paul Loussier (Birel ART/TM) had recovered 18 places to 14th. Corentin Rousseau (Sodi/TM) finished 22nd, Imbourg 23rd, and Antoine Barbaroux (Sodi/TM) 27th. Celian Gallasin (Sodi/TM) and Arthur Lehouck (Sodi/TM) retired.
Super Heat B: Pescador
Jorge Pescador (CRG/TM) put a lot of pressure on the leader Markus Kajak (Tony Kart/TM) while Genis Civico (Birel ART/TM) and Samuel Luyet (Tony Kart/Vortex) were very close. Arvid Lindblad (KR/TM) had a bad start. Arthur Carbonnel (Sodi/TM) dropped back from 6th place and David Liwinski (Sodi/TM) retired at the same time as Florian Quibel (Birel ART/TM), while incidents were multiplying on track. Pescador took the lead on the fifth lap, Luyet was 3rd and Lindblad came back to 4th at the halfway point. Kajak then dropped back to 4th behind Lindblad who was making a great comeback. The British driver in Red Bull colours moved up to 2nd place, 1,7” behind Pescador with six laps to go. Carbonnel retired. Lindblad joined Pescador and tried to attack him on the last lap. Pescador nevertheless won by less than two tenths against Lindblad. Samuel Luyet finished 3rd ahead of Civico and Danilo Albanese (KR/Iame). Giuseppe Palomba (Birel ART/TM) was 6th ahead of Kajak. Jean Nomblot (Sodi/TM) was 16th.
Provisional results pending publication of the final rankings.
