With a 20° air temperature, blue skies and bright sunshine, the OK-Junior Final of the second round of the Champions of the Future Euro Series got underway on the Zuera circuit early Sunday afternoon with 17 laps on the programme.
Nathan Tye (Sodi/TM) and Jules Caranta (Energy/TM) were on the first row. Not surprisingly, Tye kept the lead, while Caranta was 4th behind Miguel Costa (KR/Iame) and Tiziano Monza (KR/Iame). Dmitry Matveev (Tony Kart/Vortex) was already in 5th place ahead of Lenn Nijs (KR/Iame). Anatholy Khavalkin (Parolin/TM) was 6th ahead of Caranta, Oleksandr Bondarev (LN/Vortex) was 8th. On the third lap, Matveev was leading against Costa and Tye, getting ahead while the others were fighting for 2nd place. Kirill Kutskov (Birel ART/TM) retired. Caranta crashed to 15th in the battle and received a warning. Nijs moved up to 3rd behind Tye and Khavalkin came back to 4th. Bondarev managed to overtake Costa and take 5th position on his second attempt. Khavalkin moved up to 3rd. Tye closed in on the leader Matveev, but remained more than 5 tenths behind. Matveev crossed the finish line 0.574” ahead of Tye, Khavalkin was 3rd ahead of Nijs and Costa. Caranta was back in the top 10 before being classified 19th after a penalty. Arthur Dorison (Tony Kart/Vortex) finished 28th and Guillaume Bouzar (Tony Kart/Vortex) 30th.
