On an interesting new track which was far from easy to learn, Bas Lammers and the Formula K team consistently fought to improve their performance, despite some annoying hazards. The Dutchman long fought in the top five before finishing the race in 6th place.
“It’s a very beautiful site that has just been completed,” confided Bas on Sunday night. “Adria improves the image of karting, which is a very good thing. The circuit is fine, but it is not as easy to drive as the more conventional tracks. However, I took a lot of pleasure in driving it.” The competition began with a misstep in the timed qualifying session, as Bas could not take part due to a schedule change which had not been taken into account in the equipment preparation.
“I was determined to make up for lost time in the qualifying heats. From 20th in the first, I managed to come back to fifth in the last. But overtaking wasn’t always easy at Adria in KZ2, especially when the driver ahead of you to decides to close the doors. In any case, the standard is very high in this category and we faced very strong teams.“
Still, the performances were not quite the best. Many different set-ups were tried without making a real improvement. In addition, trouble with the gearshift did not help progress. “We worked hard this year to adapt to the newly approved tyres. But the results at the end of season haven’t matched our expectations, although we are still learning in every race. We must redouble our efforts to be more competitive in 2015. We will soon race in the Supernationals in Las Vegas, a whole other challenge that I also enjoy. The tyres will be different to what we have in Europe and will allow us to validate the equipment and set-up differently.”
