Logan Sargeant didn’t have an easy weekend in England at the last round of the European KF-Junior Championships. Very fast from qualifying onwards, he then had to overcome a lot of obstacles to reach the top 10 in the final. Never discouraged, the young American at the Ricky Flynn Motorsport team has shown remarkable determination, rewarded with a 6th place overall in the Championship which reflects a big improvement this season.
With his fastest time in the rain in his qualifying session, 8 thousandths of a second from pole, Logan began his UK event flawlessly. Because of a problem when starting the engine in the first qualifying heat, he started at the back of the grid and moved up to 10th place while achieving the fastest lap of the race. 5th in heat 2, then victim of a collision in his third, he lost 11 places, but he ended on a positive note with 3rd place with an excellent time in the last heat.
In the Prefinal, Logan was an unwilling victim of a major crash just metres from the start. We saw him bravely push his FA Kart / Vortex back to the grid after the race stoppage on the first lap. Then he was forced to start from the last row for the restart on a kart that was not at it’s best.
Nevertheless, Logan managed to return to 23rd position. The start of the final also didn’t go the best way for Logan as he was demoted to the second last in the stampede. Motivated as ever, he began a incredible comeback of 21 places in 18 laps, with three more conquests on the last lap to cross the finish line in 10th place.
Logan would probably have expected better than 6th place in the European Championship – a podium was quite possible – but how he achieved the position commands respect and great things are in prospect for the future. Why not at the World Championships held in less than two weeks in France, at the circuit of Essay …
