Originally from Singapore, the young Briton James Pull had to delay the start of his 2014 season for health reasons. He participated in his first race of the year as an official driver at Tony Kart Racing Team in KF-Junior at the La Conca International Circuit during the second round of the WSK Champions Cup. With little time to find his footing in his new team and to become familiar with the newly homologated Vega tyres, James ended on a positive note with 13th position in the final.
In southern Italy, the meeting didn’t start in the best way with qualification taking place in the rain. James set the 16th fastest time in his group or 31st overall resulting in 13th place on the grid during the heats. In the first heat in the sunshine on Saturday morning, he moved up to 9th position on the line, but a penalty of 5” demoted him to 18th. Pushed out of the second race, he dropped to 22nd but managed to gain 11 places, and everything went well in the third heat so he finished in sixth position after a great start. The fourth race saw all his hopes dashed on the first lap.
39th in the intermediate classification, it was imperative that James did well in the prefinal. The mission was successful with a superb start and another big gain, 13 places this time, which put him in 7th position. Too bad that the first laps of the final were complicated by problems for a number of drivers on lap one, and James could not take advantage of his position on the starting grid. However he focused on regaining the lost ground and was eventually ranked 13th in the race and 17th in the WSK Champions Cup despite only participating in one meeting.
Given this was James Pull’s first competitive race in Europe in 2014, his performance throughout the weekend bodes well for the rest of the season.
