A dramatic weekend with some wild weather and a good win for 18-year-old Netherlander Beitske Visser ended with a waterlogged circuit and a red flagged ADAC Formula Masters Race 3 at the Sachsenring. Unfortunately fellow Red Bull Junior Callan O’Keeffe could not celebrate his 17th birthday in style as the South African’s weekend in Germany proved a trying experience.
It was that final Race 3 that gave Visser victory as she raced away from 2nd place on the reverse grid to lead on the first lap. The rain then brought out the safety car and just got heavier and heavier. After 6 laps the race was red flagged and could not be restarted. “We were aquaplaning even in second gear,” reported Visser. “The conditions were really impossible.”
Visser was in great form and had almost got on the podium in Race 2. “I started P10 and it was a drying track but only me and Indy Dontje were on rain tyres. So by the end of lap 1 I was P3 and then I stayed there for the whole race. We had quite a big gap to the slick tyre runners behind but then as the track dried they were a lot faster and then we got a safety car which closed everything right up. Then for the last lap we got the green flag and on a dry track with rain tyres I had no chance so fell back.”
She crossed the line 8th and was promoted to 7th after Nicolas Beer was penalised 30 seconds. The race was won by championship leader Alessio Picariello (Team Mücke Motorsport).
