Max Defourny experienced some ups and downs on the Neapolitan circuit of Sarno, during the second round of the WSK Master Series, but he can be satisfied with his performances, in particular with his excellent 8th place in pre-final B after his great catch up effort that opened the doors to his first final.
Starting far back after his 32nd time in timed qualifying, Max faced the aggressiveness of some of the drivers during the qualification heats. 38th in the intermediate classification, it was essential for him to achieve some good results in the pre-final. And that is exactly what happened, even beyond his wildest expectations.
Starting from 19th place on the grid, Max made a good start and then moved to the attack on the first lap. He knew that most of his rivals were faster than him, so he pushed hard to catch the lead pack as soon as possible. While the battle among the drivers preceding him raged on, he got closer and reached the best drivers in 8th place, with an 11-place recovery. Nice shot!
He slipped down 5 places after a frenzied start in the final, but recovered 9 positions on the first lap by setting a time 0.1 second faster that the leader! Unfortunately the pre-final strategy did not work anymore: attacks became more and more violent and he was pushed off his line on the third lap. After an off track excursion, his chassis was not longer as efficient as before and Max could only try to hold off the other competitors, concluding with a modest 27th place.
