The young British hopeful, Enaam Ahmed, 14, won every possible international championship in his second year in KF-Junior, a unique feat that will be remembered. After winning the CIK-FIA European Championship, he was won the World crown during the Competition at Aunay-les-Bois (FRA) at the end of a perfect weekend at the top of the KF-Junior category.
Enaam, what is your first impression after the winning the title of World Champion?
– It was an amazing weekend! I won a lot of races this year, but I’ve never dominated for an entire event. I got my first pole position of the season in Qualifying and stayed ahead until the Final. It was fantastic!
Did you have a lot of pressure at the start?
– The European Championship was already difficult, so it was not really more complicated at the World Championship. I loved the special atmosphere of this event over a single day, it’s very special. Preparation is key to success in these conditions. Then you must not make any mistakes, each step is important. There is stress of course, but also a lot of fun.
But not everything was easy?
– No! In Prefinal-1 the lack of grip was difficult and I had to fight seriously to take the lead at the halfway point. In the Final, the track was still slippery. The team changed the kart and it was not completely effective immediately, so Ticktum passed me. It was not until then that I found the right carburettor setting. Lessennes was threatening until lap eight. Then I was able to widen the gap and won by a comfortable margin.
What are your plans for 2015?
– I’m only 14, so I’m staying in karting and moving to the higher class, KF.
