The young drivers in the Academy Trophy were faced with varied conditions for their three qualifying heats at Genk. The track was wet without rain and drying gradually for the first; almost dry, but still not perfectly grippy for the second and completely dry for the last. Their performance was affected by this change, and although some adapted very well to the slippery track, others waited for the increased grip. As usual in this competition, some engines were swapped.
The Turkish driver Berkay Besler, formerly the polesitter, was able to maintain his advantage by winning the first heat with a lead as big as 3.7”. Gautier Becq seemed less fast at the end of the day when he dropped to 3rd. The Belgian Gilles Magnus holds second position in front of the Sri Lankan driver Shanaka Clay, in fourth and in fifth the Estonian Ralf Aron from the Spaniard Arturo Melgar.
Maxime Potty is sixth, Nathan Hédouin eighth, Adeline Prudent ninth and Gautier Becq 15th.
