KF again rewarded us with a great race whose outcome was only certain on the finish line after several twists. Karol Basz (Tony Kart / Vortex) was started in the lead on the first lap, closely followed by Sam Snell (Energy / Parilla) very sharp, while Dorian Boccolacci (Energy / TM) fell back into third position on track. Lance Stroll (Zanardi / Parilla) was then in fourth position ahead of Armand Convers (Kosmic / Vortex). Boccolacci first attacked his teammate Snell, imitated by Stroll and Convers, before tackling Basz shortly afterwards on the outside right after the starting line, which isn’t a trivial action.
Convers had then joined Stroll and the Tony Kart driver in the hunt for Energy of Boccolacci. Then Ben Barnicoat took 5th place from Snell, Callum Ilott (Zanardi / Parilla) moved up to 7th position from Marco Maestranzi (PCR / Parilla) and George Russell (Birel / TM). Meanwhile, the second French driver, Valentin Moineault (ART GP / TM) gained ground steadily. Basz threatened Boccolacci, and he succeeded in retaking the lead on lap 9, while Convers took second a bit later. Now 3rd, Boccolacci had not yet had the last word …
Ilott and Maestranzi crashed after halfway, only the British driver was able to continue, but very delayed. At the front, the trio remained together in less than half a second. Boccolacci managed to take advantage of Convers, who hadn’t given up yet. Basz retired at the start of the last lap, giving first place to Boccolacci. The French duel then entered the second act. Swifter in fast sections, Convers attacked at the last corner, but Boccolacci showed strong resistance even including a light touch. Convers wasn’t very happy, trying to go past over the line, but Boccolacci was ahead by 28 thousandths over the older driver. Stroll enjoyed a beautiful 3rd place, a good start to the season in KF, ahead of Barnicoat, in fourth, and Kevin Rossel (LH / BMB) in fifth. Moineault neatly returned to the top 10.
