The Napoli International Circuit, in Sarno, hosted the first match of the 2012 WSK Euro Series. 5 Chiesa Corse Drivers present and, despite the pouring rain, a great 2nd place conquered.
Callum Ilott – KF3 – Lands also in the rain
Great since Superpole where he closes 2nd. Then 4 heats: two victories, three best laps and a one-eighty. He qualifies 3rd for prefinal A, where he ends 2nd. He later confirms the position also in the final.
Overall, a positive weekend in difficult weather conditions. In karting, when it rains, danger lurks behind every corner, but he had his way.
Lance Stroll – KF3 – In the super-accident
He is 3rd overall in Superpole, then spins around in heat one (13th), but recover nicely in the others (1st, 2nd and 3rd). In prefinal A he is 4th, then in the final he is the first to get bumped into in the traffic jam that ensues at the start of the race and is forced to leave. He pays for the excessive thrust of the driver who caused the accident and who maybe wasn’t taught the good manners of fair-play displayed by Lammers in the KZ1 Final.
Dan Ticktum – KF3 – In the super-accident 2
He wins one heat and does great in the prefinal, where he closes in 2nd place. He would be battling for the podium if the accident at the start of the race involving drivers from the 4th to the 9th spot (see Stroll) hadn’t forced him on the rebound (all the way to 18th place) with a damaged kart. In any case good job at keeping on. Now he is 10th in the general standings.
Nikita Mazepin – KF3 – He keeps growing
His growing spurt sees no end. He gets the qualifying wrong, but climbs back up nicely and gets into the prefinal placing 27th overall. In prefinal A he does great and closes 8th. In the final, a contact while he is 6th forces him to start again from the back and he ends 16th. He continues to make progress race after race.
Thiago Vivacqua – KF2 – Conditional delay
He races well in his five heats and, despite not starting up front, he places 2nd, 4th, twice 6th and 18th due to a contact that slows him down. In the prefinal he starts 12th but spins around on the wet and ends 23rd. In the final he could recover, but gets a flat tire at the start and after a few laps is forced to leave. He is growing and it’s worth remembering he missed the opening month and a half of the season due to injury.
