After three major international events, the Winter Cup and the WSK Champions Cup, the 2014 season is now well underway. At this time of the year, everything happens in Italy, and the weather has generally been mild compared to previous years. The teams are set up, and everyone is working hard to be ready for the next deadlines which are the WSK Super Master Series at the end of the week and the CIK-FIA European Championships which will start during May.
2014 looks pretty good for the sport with entries which are quite decent considering the difficult economic environment. In KZ2, the professionals fight among themselves, sometimes with completely youthful energy. Paolo De Conto (Birel / TM), Ben Hanley (ART GP / TM) and Jorrit Pex (CRG / TM) have been the winners of the first three races. In KF, the hierarchy is far from settled and there are variations in performance from one race to the next. Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart / TM) has two wins, but lost to Karol Basz (Tony Kart / Vortex) in standings of the WSK Champions Cup. Enaam Ahmed (FA Kart / Vortex) has swept the premier ranks of KF-Junior, closely followed by his compatriot and teammate Max Fewtrell who has progressed well, while Daniel Ticktum (Zanardi / Parilla) and Mick Junior (Tony Kart / Vortex) have shown good performances.
Beginning in Spain at Campillos, European competition in Rotax will have to wait for early April to properly take off at Genk (BEL). Racing has resumed for a few weeks in Britain and in Belgium, as well as in France where the regional championships open the action. To be continued …
