The case stirred up PFI in the paddock, but it should stay calm. The competitor Max Verstappen has appealed the 10s penalty applied after an overtaking maneuver on Ben Barnicoat, which dropped the Dutch driver down to 21st position at the start of Race 1. The appeal suspended the penalty, so Max will start from ninth place, with a much better chance of winning the European title in KF2. If this was to be the case, the Championship would not be decided on Sunday night, since it would to wait for the decision of the British Court. If the appeal was unsuccessful, Max would lose his result.
For some, this is a big risk, they are convinced that Max’s overtake was as bad as shown on the on-board cameras. While this was not improbable, other viewpoints were shown on an external video, where Max didn’t seem guilty of anything major. Anyway, the suspense of the battle on the track was now increased by a fight in the courts, which is always damaging to a sporting event.
Unless the competitor, who paid the prescribed amount, does not confirm his appeal in time. Anyway, most important is what happens on the track …
