The paddock and the tyre companies have a longstanding history of (dis)like. For the European KF3 Championship weekend at Varennes and in the rain, and there are strong and many complaints about the wet tyres supplied by Vega for free practice, like “I was running like a train and lost a second.” The tyres have always been accused of every possible evil by the teams, with some justification, but not always.
Was Vega taking the opportunity to sell a stock of old wet tyres? Hard to tell from the outside. Still, there were significant differences, about 1.5″, for some drivers between two sets in free practice, which didn’t make them very happy. At first glance, it is estimated that 8/10 a lap difference could correspond to 80 places in the rankings.
It will be clearer in a couple of hours after the official qualifying sessions. To be continued…
