Unexpectedly the rain has stopped at Varennes some time before the start of Qualifying and the track was left dry enough that many drivers went out on slicks in the first group. Of course, the time only improved over the laps, the fastest time of 1’00” 162 in group 1 to 57” 500 in group 4.
Romain De Leval (Kosmic / Parilla) who set the fastest time of 1’00”162 in group 1, outpaced Paolo Besancenez (Sodi / Parilla) by 3/10, while the times were down by a second on average on each lap. Nikita Mazepin was 3rd (Zanardi / Parilla) Alessio Piccini (Kosmic / Vortex) 4th, Nathan Aston (Intrepid / TM) 5th, by more than a second from pole.
Group 2 dropped below 59” with a best lap from Simone Cunati (Top Kart / Parilla) on 58” 998, ahead of Kremers (PCR / Parilla), Connor Jupp (Energy / Vortex) by 2/10 and Joonas Lappalainen (Ninar / Vortex), Kim Luis Schramm (Zanardi / Parilla), Gabi Aubry (Birel / TM), Max Defourny (PCR / Parilla), Dorian Boccolacci (Intrepid / TM) 11th by 6.7 tenths.
With 58” 036, George Russell (Intrepid / Vortex) was the best performer from group 3 ahead of the surprising Gautier Becq (Sodi / Parilla), third went to the Belgian Matteo Raspatelli (Tony Kart / Parilla), then Luca Corberi (Kosmic / Vortex) and Egor Stupenkov.
The Italian Giuseppe Gagliano (Kosmic / Vortex), winner of the 2011 Rok Talent Award, set the overall fastest time of the class, on 57”500 in front of Alex Palou (CRG / BMB), the American Santino (Energy / TM), Luca Botarelli (Energy / TM) and the Belgian Benjamin Lessennes (Sodi / Parilla).
We expect some changes in the rankings following scrutineering.
