The Sodi Racing Team moved to Germany last weekend with a double programme: European KZ1 Championship for Anthony Abbasse and first round of the World KF1 Championship for Alex Baron, Anthoine Hubert, and Loïc Réguillon. While KF1 drivers were busy developing their new equipment with special tyres, Abbasse could use his experience to show a great performance in KZ1. But nothing was really simple during the Wackersdorf meeting.
KZ1 drivers had to adapt in a hurry to the tyre change decided by the CIK at the last minute, which rendered ineffective all the setup work already made. Abbasse lost a lot already in timed qualifying, but recovered to 9th after the qualification heats. Things got even worse in the final phases, when he could race for no more than 4 laps! He was forced to retire on the very first lap for an engine problem and his tyres fell to pieces alarmingly in the final race, forcing him to drive in slow motion and to retire after 3 laps. And that was it.
KF1 held the first meeting of its new World Championship in Wackersdorf. French drivers unanimously deplored an excess of aggressiveness during races and the fact that officials inflicted no penalties. Sodi official team drivers managed to exploit the full potential of their karts even in these difficult circumstances, but there is still some development work to be done with the team to aim for the top of the standings. Despite his limited training in 2011, Loïc Réguillon used all his experience to climb to 8th in Race 2 and to 9th in Race 4, before a penalty forced him down the order. Alex Baron re-entered the top 10 on Saturday, but had to retire after a few laps during the second race. Anthoine Hubert raised the pace race after race and concluded in 9th place in Race 4.
