After the first races of the World Cup at Sarno, the new layout has reduced the passing zones for competitors, and yet it is far from obvious. The first corner after the long straight, is a wide righthander. Keeping your nerve is less important than expected since many attempts are unsuccessful as the driver being overtaken is often able to control the situation.
Ben Hanley (ART GP / TM) got the better of Paolo De Conto (Birel / BMB) at the start of the AB heat and retained his advantage until the finish, on his own at the front. Alessandro Giulietti (Praga / TM) made multiplie attempts to pass Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) in third position until Bas Lammers (Praga / Parilla) overtook two of them and the teammates threatened Ardigo who passed De Conto. The Birel driver lost 3 places elsewhere in the maneuver. Lammers, the fastest on the track, finally finished second behind Hanley. Giulietti finished 4th, De Conto 5th, Thonon 6th from De Brabander. Sixth in qualifying, Jorrit Pex (CRG / TM) retired after two laps due to a problem with the water pump.
Armand Convers (Kosmic / Vortex) made the best start in the next race ahead of Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart / Vortex). Starting well, Anthony Abbasse (Sodi / Maxter) attacked Dreezen immediately putting him outside on the hairpin. He captured the lead on the next lap, this time passing Convers. He recovered well, managing to pass the Sodi driver on the last right. Meanwhile, Kozlinski (PCR / TM) overtook both Dreezen and Patrik Hajek to cross the finish line in third position. Convers won the race with the fastest time and was almost seven tenths ahead of Abbasse. Hajek finished 4th, Dreezen 5th, Fore 7th having withstood teammate Federer.
